SURGICAL EXPERIENCE

IN CARDIAC SURGERY

MAY 2002 TO DECEMBER 2002

Dr Baburajan , he worked as an assistant professor in cardiac surgery in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and research centre (AIMS), Kochi, from May 2002 to December 2002. AIMS is a 600 bedded multispecialty tertiary care centre. The Hospital is situated in the central part of Kerala. Here he got an opportunity to work with eminent Cardiac surgeons like Prof. S. K. Nair, Prof. Sathyaprasad and Prof. Suresh G. Rao. There are 6 operation theaters, 14 bedded first stage cardiac ICU and 25 bedded second stage cardiac ICU in the department. There he was fully involved in the operative and perioperative care of the patients under the above mentioned surgeons. The institution is recognized by the National Board of Examinations for Diplomate of National Board examinations in Cardiac surgery. Shifted to the home town when a tertiary care centre started there.

Since December 2002 Till Date

He worked as a junior cardiac surgeon at the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Calicut, Kerala; - a 300-bedded multispecialty hospital, which caters to the health needs of the people of the northern most part of the state of Kerala - the Malabar region which is his home town. It is a new hospital with full-fledged Cardiology and Cardiac Surgical wings, apart from a multitude of other specialties. Doctor has been working there since December 2002 under an eminent Cardiac Surgeon- Dr. Murali P. Vettath. He had his specialized training in Cardiac surgery at the West Mead Hospital, New South Wales, Australia and then at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia. The Cardiac Surgical unit, headed by Dr. Murali P. Vettath, concentrates on all types of Adult Cardiac Surgeries, especially Coronary Artery Bypass Surgeries in its all forms, Valve surgeries, minimally invasive approach for ASD closure, etc. He has developed a new device for the proximal anastamosis of vein grafts to aorta - known as Vettath's Anastamotic Obturator which helps in attaining a stroke free CABG. They have performed more than 300 proximal anastamosis using this device successfully. The Department has 2 Operating Theatres, with a capacity to perform 4 to 6 Cardiac Surgeries a day. The Cardiac Surgical ICU is 15 bedded and is equipped with state of the art equipments including IABP. Here Dr Baburajan is fully involved in the operative and perioperative care of patients, under Dr. Murali P. Vettath's guidance.

MARCH 2000 TO MARCH 2002

Dr Baburajan underwent his MCh in Cardiothoracic and vascular surgery training at the Medical College Hospital, Calicut, Kerala, India. This is one of the premier institutes in India. My MCh course at this centre, under the guidance of professors, Dr. K.V.Krishnadas and Dr.P.Balachandran Nair, gave him abundant exposure to all forms of adult cardiac surgeries; varieties of Paediatric cardiac surgeries like ASD closure, VSD closures, Correction of Tetralogy of Fallot, Anomalous Pulmonary venous connection, etc. He also had the opportunity to get exposed to various thoracic, closed heart and vascular surgeries - both elective and emergency.

OCTOBER 2001

Dr Baburajan had one month special training in cardiac surgery at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology Thiruvanandapuram, Kerala, India and had the opportunity to get exposed to all varieties of adult and pediatric cardiac surgeries and aneurysm surgeries, under the guidance of Prof.K.S.Neelakandhan and his team of cardiac surgeons.

IN GENERAL SURGERY

SINCE DECEMBER 1992 to DECEMBER 1995

He Worked as a Resident in General Surgery a K.J.Hospital Chennai, India which is recognized center for resident training by the Royal college of surgeons London, Glasgow and Edinberg for FRCS training and National Board OF Examinations New Delhi for Diplomate of National Board of Examinations in General Surgery.

SINCE JANUARY 1996 TO JUNE 1997

Doctor was running a Private Clinic where he used to see mainly General Surgical Cases. Cases requiring surgical intervention were referred to referral hospitals. All the operations were assisted by Dr Baburajan and hewas looking after the patients during the post operative period under the consultant guidance.

SINCE MAY 1991 TO SEPT 1992

He worked as a general practitioner in a Private Clinic.

JULY 1997 TO MARCH 2000

After his Diplomate of National Board Examination in general surgery, He joined the Academy Of Medical Sciences (ACME), Pariyaram, Kannur, Kerala, India, as a Tutor in General surgery. ACME is an undergraduate training centre situated in the northern part of Kerala recognized by medical council of India. It is 500-bedded Multispeciality hospital where he got tremendous experience in general surgeries and various endoscopic procedures.
